Alternatives to Wix, Weebly and Squarespace

When going online, you want a good-looking and user-friendly website that represents the story behind your brand or personality to its’ fullest. There are so many options available for creating a website, but probably the most well-known are giants that focus on drag-and-drop “Do-It-Yourself” (DIY) website building like Wix, Weebly and Squarespace.

These have been very common for quite with 92 million websites powered by Wix, 40 million by Weebly and over 1 million by Squarespace. Too common? We have something new for you, you rebellious soul! Check out our small guide on the next generation of website building tools that are taking the stage today.

The general trend dominating within new website builders is not surprisingly centered around machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI). Wiredelta® has already written extensively about how AI will lower cost, and how we think AI coupled with open source is going to change the software industry as we know it.

Let’s take a look at some of the initiatives in the market of website building that seeks to compete with Wix, Weebly and Squarespace.

The Grid

When looking for something extraordinary – try The Grid. This platform is supported with the AI function Molly. Molly will help you to build your own website by just communicating. The Grid is promising to offer total automation of design issues. For sure, this is an innovation due to the fact that web design is hard for ordinary mortals – many get confused by the layout possibilities and results might be horrifying.

However, Molly is still under construction so it might take some time until she learns how to design properly for you. For now, The Grid is offering a free domain for the first year, 2 weeks of trial (not free, you will get your money back in case you are not satisfied) and tons of design editing options.

Mopro

Mopro are the ones from Irvine, CA who stand against DIY websites. Their idea is to collect information about your company and then come up with a first version website in under 24 hours. Websites are based on their internal AI, taking support from one of the Mopro web designers.

Promotional videos claim that a free version of a website is available as well. However, pricing is above average due to the quality Mopro promises. Special offers like custom video and photo shooting are available too. Due to high pricing(starting at $199 per month) only ones with the budget can be California dreaming about Mopro’s outstanding services!

Weps

Weps are offering simple websites created with the help of a chatbot. The point here is to complete a two-minute survey consisting of mainly yes-or-no questions and get a website based on the answers. Quick, simple and affordable websites – this is what founders, two 19-year olds are offering to their clients.

Opla

Opla is an another service that uses a chatbot for creating websites. However, they are taking this communication to the next level. They are promising that their chatbot is a personal “web guy” who will take care of everything.

As well as in the case of Weps, it asks you a few questions and builds a website according to your answers. Opla’s chatbot can be reached via some messenger apps like Facebook Messenger so you can manage your website straight from there.

An idea worth paying attention to, right? However, at this point, Opla’s chatbot is a mix of key questions and, possibly, human support. Looking forward to seeing how far and well they will develop.

Heek

A startup that tends to promote the idea of building websites by communicating with chatbots as well. Firstly, Heek’s chatbot asks you some basic question about you and your company’s background.

Then it allows to choose a design you like, customize it a bit and then asks you to save the result. The idea behind Heek is not unique, it is more than suitable for those who cannot afford Mopro professional teams, do not have a lot of time and do not have any demanding customization requests.

Nobody is perfect – Heek’s chatbot is not fully finished when it comes to swapping photos and editing text, so you have to do it yourself manually. A chatbot is not an expert in the field, but it can still give you advice on manually fixed issues to make your life easier.

Wiredelta

If you want a level-up solution – check out Wiredelta – setting up with common known tools like WordPress, made easy.

Contrary to all the other alternatives stated above, Wiredelta uses open source libraries for users to build websites. Massive amounts of design themes and plugins can be accessed and assembled for free.

Just to compare Wix, Weebly and Squarespace and their average 250 themes and 150 modules, WordPress offers more than 4000 themes and almost 50,000 plugins! And that’s not even counting other open source libraries like Magento, Prestashop, Joomla and Drupal.

Besides tapping into the immense amount of options from open source libraries, Wiredelta aims to make it easy for users to customize the chosen theme design and functionality with an AI assistant. The assistant guides the user through setting up to modifying to launching the website, building websites in ludicrous mode!

Wrap up

Many innovative and user-friendly alternatives are available to build a website besides the usual drag-and-drop tools like Wix, Weebly, Squarespace, etc. At this point, chatbot platforms offer a strictly limited choice of design options and functions. Unfortunately, there is no “thinking outside the box” when it comes to websites created with closed source chatbox or drag-and-drop platforms.

Criteria that defines consumer’s decision-making are predominantly split into ease of use, cost and customization options. Tragically, they have become tradeoffs of one another in the website building industry. Until now! Wiredelta is bridging the gap between custom websites built from scratch by a professional, and cost-effective website builders.
